Áine holds a BA in Psychology from Trinity College Dublin and an MA in Human Rights and Democratisation from the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation in Venice, Italy. In 2020, she completed her PhD in Global Psychotraumatology, which was conducted as a part of the CONTEXT programme, a collaborative research consortium on psychotraumatology, funded by the Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions. Her dissertation research focused on trauma and intimate partner violence in the context of Northern Ireland.
Áine has a professional background working in the NGO sector in Ireland, mainly in roles focusing on gender equality and sexual and reproductive health and rights. She is currently working on a project in collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, which aims to improve supervision practice in the provision of mental health and psychosocial support in humanitarian settings.
